What We Believe
The Mission Statement
The mission statement of BridgePoint Church is: “Connecting people far from God to new life in Jesus.”
To put it simply — Who are you close to that is far from God? The mission is to connect that person (or those people) to new life through salvation in Jesus Christ!
We affirm the Baptist Faith and Message (2000), which outlines the beliefs of Southern Baptist Churches. Below is a summary of some of those beliefs. If you wish to read the Baptist Faith and Message in full, click the button below.
About the Bible
The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to man… It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy… It is the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried…
Deuteronomy 4:1-2; Psalms 12:6, 19:7-10, 119:105, 160: Proverbs 30:5; Jeremiah 15:16; Luke 24:44-47; 2 Timothy 3;15-17;
2 Peter 1:20-21.
There is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. …The eternal triune God reveals HImself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, without division of nature, essence, or being. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.
Genesis 1:1, 2:7; Deuteronomy 6:4; Psalm 19:1-3; John 4:24, 10:30; Romans 8:14-15; Ephesians 4:4-6; 1 John 5:7.
About God the Father
God as Father reigns with providential care over His universe. …He is all powerful, all knowing, all loving, and all wise.
Exodus 3:14; I Chronicles 29:10; 2 Chronicles 7:14; Jeremiah 10:10; Matthew 7:11; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 1 Timothy 1:17.
About Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He is God in the flesh. Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, He lived a sinless human life and gave Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. After three days, He arose from the dead. His substitutionary death on the cross made provision for the redemption of men from sin… He ascended into Heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where He is the One Mediator, fully God, fully man, in whose person is effected the reconciliation between God and man. He will return someday in power and glory to judge the world to consummate His redemptive mission. He now dwells in all believers as the living and ever present Lord.
Genesis 18:1ff; Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; 53; Matthew 1:22-23; ; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 4:14, 15.
About the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God… He inspired men of old to write the Scriptures… He enables us to understand truth… He convicts us of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. He calls us to the Savior and effects regeneration. At the moment of regeneration He baptizes every believer into the Body of Christ. He cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, and bestows the spiritual gifts by which they serve God through His church. He seals the believer unto the day of final redemption….
Genesis 1:2; Matthew 1:18; John 14:16-17; 16:7-14; Acts 1:8;
1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 1:13; 5:18.
People are a special creation of God, made in His own image. He created them male and female as the crowning work of His creation. The gift of gender is thus part of the goodness of God’s creation… By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race… Only the grace of God can bring man back into His holy fellowship…
Genesis 1:26-28, 2:7, 3:1-24; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6, 59:1-2; Romans 3:10-18, 3:23, 5:6, 12, 19; Colossians 1:21-22.
Salvation involves the redemption of the whole person, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior… There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord… It includes regeneration through repentance, justification through God’s grace, sanctification through the Holy Spirit, and glorification as its culmination…
Matthew 1:21, 4:17; Romans 3:23, 6:23, 5:8, 10:9-10, 13; Romans 5:1, 8:1; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 1:12, 14:6; Galatians 3:26; Titus 3:5.
About the Church
A church is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the Gospel… Members of the church are united together in part through Christian baptism by immersion and through partaking of the Lord’s Supper, both as symbolic acts of salvation and God’s grace… The local church seeks to extend the Gospel to the ends of the earth. The New Testament speaks also of the church as the Body of Christ which includes all of the redeemed of all the ages, believers from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation.
Matthew 16:15-19; Acts 2:41-42, 47; Acts 8:36-37; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29, 12:12-27; Ephesians 2:19; Colossians 1:18, 2:12.
About Eternal Security
Election is the gracious purpose of God… and is consistent with the free agency of man… All true believers endure to the end. Those whom God has accepted in Christ, and sanctified by His Spirit, will never fall away from the state of grace, but shall persevere to the end… Believers may fall into sin through neglect and temptation… yet they shall be kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation.
John 10:27-29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10, 10:14 13:5;
People were created to exist forever. Either we will exist eternally separated from God by sin in hell, or we will exist eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation in Heaven. There are no other possibilities. Heaven and hell are real places of eternal existence.
